Empower Elected Local Councillors
The entire political system needs to be overhauled to give citizens greater rights to challenge decisions made on their behalf.
The political process needs to be more participative and representative to overcome the big democratic deficit issues we face today.
More democracy is required across the country, economy and community.
The current system is designed to make sure only wealthy citizens are able to take part. A majority of citizens are unable to truly participate in the process as they have to work for a living and are unable to afford the time or cost of doing so. People with long work hours, caring responsibilities, volunteers, other regular interests are therefore left out of the process.
Local Councillors are representatives at local level. These positions should be full-time functions in order to enable people across the community to contribute to policy making and taking decisions.
